18th International Conference on Composite Materials

July 27th, 2009 - July 31st, 2009

Venue: Edinburgh, Scotland

Interfaces mini Symposium

In 12 months time the major international conference on Composite Materials (ICCM17) will be held in Scotland, July 2009. As part of the conference Profs Bèla Pukansky of Budapest and Frank R Jones of Sheffield are organising a mini symposium on "Interfaces in Composite Materials" as part of the Conference. We wish to embrace interdisciplinary studies in multicomponent materials.

We seek abstracts in the following topics (not extensive):

  • Fibre - Matrix (Polymers, Ceramics, Metals) interaction - Chemistry, Physics and micromechanics.
  • Particulate (nano and microscale) - Matrix interaction and mechanics.
  • Nanocomposites - Chemistry, Physics and micromechanics.
  • Interpenetrating networks and Polymer Blends used as composites or matrices for composites.
  • Modelling of Interfacial Interactions.
  • Multiscale modelling for interfacial optimisation.
  • Macro- micro- nano- properties correlation.
  • Interphase formation and
  • Fibre and particulate reinforcement surface treatment and modification (eg. silanes for glass and minerals oxidation for carbon fibres, plasma treatment and coating for polymer fibre reinforcements).

The deadline for abstracts is 31^st October 2008. Please submit through the normal route as given in the attached flyer, but keep Bèla and I informed.

We look forward to meeting you in Edinburgh next year.
