Gert-Jan Wetzelaer (RUG) designated ‘cum laude’ for his DPI thesis

31 March 2014

On 28 March DPI researcher Gert-Jan Wetzelaer defended his thesis entitled ‘Charge Transport and Recombination in Organic-Semiconductor Diodes' at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen under supervision of Prof. Paul Blom and Prof. Dago de Leeuw. He received the designation ‘cum laude' for his outstanding scientific work and defence of his thesis.

His research work was dedicated to the exploration of charge transport and recombination of charges in organic solar cells (OPV) and OLEDs. His results were ground breaking as he developed an unambiguous model describing charge transport (electron and hole) and staffed his model with temperature dependent I-V measurements of practical OLED and OPV devices. His thesis contains outstanding modelling and experimental work, which is currently extensively used by industrial developers of OLEDs and OPV devices to further understand charge transport.

Gert-Jan Wetzelaer published 24 papers, some in high ranked international journals, and still 6 are in preparation. The total citations of his papers currently exceeds 500 which is magnificent for such a young researcher.
