Functional Polymer Systems
SAMFETs
Self-assembly (SAM) is a very promising technology for mass production of organic electronics. Bottom-up organization of molecules is the way to go for downscaling the size of electronic circuits. The basic building block of an electronic circuit is a self-assembled mono-layer field-effect transistor (SAMFET), where the semi-conductor is a monolayer spontaneously formed on the gate dielectric.
Functional Polymer Systems and Philips researchers were the first to demonstrate real logic functionality by constructing a 15-bit code generator in which hundreds of SAMFETs are addressed simultaneously.
