Multinational Petrobras new participant DPI

16 July 2010

As from this summer multinational Petrobras is one of the industrial participants of the Dutch Polymer Institute. The Brazilian energy company is interested in the fields of Bio-Inspired Polymers and Polyolefins. The participation of this globally acting company fits into the strategy of the Dutch Polymer Institute which seeks to strengthen its global position.

Petrobras became participant in the Technology Areas Bio-Inspired Polymers (BIP) and Polyolefins (PO). The BIP programme focuses on finding bio-inspired and bio-based solutions for existing and new applications. Polyolefins represent the largest group of polymers and is aiming for proficiency in the expanding applications of these polymers. The research projects within the Dutch Polymer Institute (DPI) are divided into nine Technology Areas. Each area focuses on specific area of polymer applications and technologies, such as Performance Polymers, Coatings and Functional Polymer Systems. At this moment, the focus on cross Technology Area projects is increasing as DPI also strives for a full value chain approach.

Petrobras brings the total number of industrial participants to 31. Earlier this year also ExxonMobil and Solvay became participants in the Dutch Polymer Institute. Jacques Joosten, Managing Director of DPI, is very pleased with Petrobras, Solvay and ExxonMobil as new participants. "These three international companies show that DPI is a worldwide leading institute in the field of polymers. Also, we are very pleased to see that companies are again confident enough to invest in pre-competitive research programmes after the hit of the economic crisis."

Petrobras is an integrated energy company that performs in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, petrochemical, marketing and transportation, both in Brazil and abroad.
