The aim of the Polymers for Oil and Gas programme is to generate tools and new insights into existing and new polymers for utilisation in the exploration, production and transport of oil and gas.
Two main areas are distinguished: firstly, the use of polymers in fluids for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and other subsurface drilling/recovery applications. Secondly, the behaviour of polymers in materials used under extreme/adverse conditions, e.g. in hydrocarbon transport and in deep-sea and/or pre-salt applications. The latter topic is researched in close collaboration with the Performance Polymers programme area.
